Oil is a homogeneous mixture of organic compounds,
primarily hydrocarbons insoluble in water.
Also known simply as crude oil or crude oil.
It occurs in the interior of the Earth, transforming the organic matter
accumulated in sediments in the geologic past and can accumulate in natural
geological traps, from which it is extracted by drilling wells.
It is common to measure the
volumes of liquid petroleum in barrels (42 US gallons, equivalent to
158.987294928 liters), and the volume of gas in cubic feet (equivalent to
28.316846592 liters); in other regions both volumes are measured in cubic
meters.
